Fündekal produces a line of fine quality decal sheets with this release depicting markings for the de Havilland Mosquito PR.IV in 1/32 scale. 

 

 

Throughout the war the British Overseas Airways Corporation maintained regular flights between Leuchars, Scotland and Stockholm, Sweden. The route was treacherous due to poor weather and the fact that much of the time was spent flying over occupied Norway. By the end of 1942 the BOAC were looking for a fast and dependable airplane that could avoid enemy fighters and still deliver and extract sensitive material from neutral Sweden. Enter de Havilland's "wooden wonder", the Mosquito.

The first Mosquito allotted the BOAC was PR IV DZ411. It was given the civilian code G-AGFV and had modified engines making it the fastest Mosquito airborne at that time. Soon after, the BOAC acquired six unarmed FB.VI Mosquitoes to add to DZ411. The BOAC Mossies were vital in transporting important documents to and from Sweden, as well as a few passengers and essential materials in their bomb bays. This sheet allows the modeller to depict G-AGFV at any point in her career and details the unique modifications to her engines.  The aircraft was originally painted in the Dark Earth and Dark Green scheme and had either an Aluminium Dope under surface or was painted in Sky depending on the date.

 

 

Later, the aircraft was finished in Dark Slate Grey and Extra Dark Sea Grey upper surfaces.

 

 

The decals are superbly printed with good colour saturation and excellent register.  The carrier film is ultra-thin and should snuggle down into the surface detail well.  I always use decal setting solution but this does not to look necessary with these decals.  The carrier film will almost totally disappear under a coat of clear.

 

 

The instruction sheet does not come with the decals but is available to download from the Fundekals website and is in full colour.
