The fifth release in the Airframe Extra series by Valiant Wings covers the Battle of Britain in detail. This release is covered in 90 pages within an A4 style magazine.

The books covers the aerial protagonists from this period in historical prose, period photographs of subjects, colour profiles and 1/48th and 1/72nd builds by well know modellers Steve Evans and Libor Jekl. A handy reference guide for the colours used during the battle by the RAF, Luftwaffe and Reggia Aeronautica are supplied in Arcylic colours by GS Mr Acqueous, Humbrol, Lifecolor, Tamiya and Xtracrylic. Equvalent enamel colours are supplied in the Humbrol, Revell, White Ensign and Xtracrylic line.

An excellent week-by-week, day-by-day historical summary is covered in the four phases of the battle in the history section of the book. This is an excellent summary of the battle given the approximate 20 pages that it is covered in.

Conclusion

The Battle of Britain was an important time in history for both sides of the war and this book provides excellent coverage in numerous outlets. I’ve mentioned in previous reviews for this series that these books are an excellent ‘go-to’ book for some great high level coverage of the topic. The additional profiles by Richard Caruana and models by Steve Evans and Libor Jekl really set the book off. I’m happy to have this in my library.

Recommended.
