The one part of the Eduard Spitfire kits that I would have liked them to do better would be the upper cowling. The fit of the kit parts are very good but there is a seam right down the center that will need to be cleaned up and with the fine rivets there is a chance to lose that detail. An easy fix is provided by BarracudaCast with a one piece resin cowling.
Packaged on card stock in a ziplock bag, the single piece of caramel color resin is easily removed from the casting block. You will need to remove at least part of the reinforcing strip from the inside of the cowling, but that is really easy. Once that is done the new cowling is a drop fit on the kit. It is fits perfectly and has the same exquisite detail that the rest of the kit has with very little work. Once it is attached just prime and paint. Simple, easy and effective.
I will be using these upper cowlings on all of my future Eduard Spitfires, and there will be plenty of them. The simple and easy upgrade makes the upper cowling a non-issue.
Highly Recommended.
