Airfix's 1/24 scale Hawker Typhoon Mk.Ib is available online from Squadron
The model is now displayed in the new WW2 wing of the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre in Blenheim NZ, which I project managed the build thereof.
I have built the model on behalf of the late John "Sandy" Sandilands family.
Sandy was a long time guide at the museum and his connection to the Typhoon goes back to his first posting during WW2, which was as an "erk" on a Typhoon Squadron.
Incidentally when my Father joined the RNZAF his first posting was to Malaya during the Emergency, where Sandy was his overseeing Sergeant.
Sandy was the epitome of a man who refused to grow up. He took flying lessons in his 90s, and after fixed wing flying decided the challenge of helicopters appealed to him.
Sadly Sandy was involved in a fatal car accident returning from a helicopter lesson, and his loss is felt keenly among those of us who had the pleasure to know him.
The museum Typhoon model is finished as Desmond Scotts personal aircraft, and it resides in a collection of Scotts memorabilia, including his full medal set, which has been kindly loaned to the museum by his family.
This display is flanked by a small but poignant display honoring Sandy Sandilands
