Trumpeter 1/32 scale
Hawker Hurricane Mk.I
by Roland Sachsenhofer
Revell's 1/32 scale Heinkel He 219 is available online from Squadron.com for USD$49.56!
Hawkers famous fighter has been reproduced in 1:24 scale twice. As a youngster I had built the Airfix kit- then one of just a handful of kits in that exciting scale- and I remember my enthusiasm about the beautiful lines and the sheer size of that model.
Recently I got my hands on the Trumpeter kit and was excited again: the Hurricane is really one of my favourite planes, beautifully balanced proportions and that certain pugnacious look combine to a real flying-beauty.
Trumpeter did great work on that Hurricane; fit and layout of the parts seem nearly perfect to me; if the modeller wants, it would be easy to show the Merlin engine. Presumably a little bit of further detailing would not be bad in that case, but the kit gives a sound start if you would like to do so.
The decals are a little bit on the rough side, not unusual by Trumpeter, but still useable.
Anyway most of the applied decals have been taken from the “Battle of Britain” sheet from Techmod.
My model shows an Hurricane from the 306th Squadron “City of Torun”, one of the “foreign” Squadrons of the Royal Air Force. V7118 „V-ZU“ has been preferably been flown by F/Lt Kennard and F/O Nowak from RAF Ternhill in the latter half of 1940.
The build was a pure joy to assemble- I am keen to get one of Trumpeter's 1:24 scale Mk.II´s on the workbench!
