Xtradecal's 1/48 Defiant Decals will be available online from Squadron.com
Xtradecal has recently released two new 1/72 scale decal sets covering the Avro Shackleton. Tonight I will be examining Part Two.
Alll six of the subjects are the MR.2 variant - the subject of the Airfix kit.
Four different camouflage schemes are offered - two in overall Dark Sea Grey, two in Dark Sea Grey with a white upper fuselage, one with white lower surfaces and Dark Sea Grey uppers, and one with white lower surfaces and Medium Sea Grey uppers.
Details are as follows:
-
Avro Shackleton MR.2 WG557 Empire Test Pilots School Farnborough 1964 DSG/White;
-
Avro Shackleton MR.2 WG557 T-L 228 Sqn RAF St Eval 1955 MSG/White;
-
Avro Shackleton MR.2 WR961/U 204 Sqn RAF Majunga 1971 White/DSG;
-
Avro Shackleton MR.2 WL758 37/E 37 Sqn Operation Musketeer, Suez 1956 Overall DSG with Black/Yellow stripes round rear fuselage and wings;

One full set of national markings are supplied.
Instructions for the decal sheet are in full colour across two folded A4 sheets. Both side plus upper and lower views are provided for all aircraft. Stencils are not included.
Colour notes are supplied, along with model paint callouts for Xtracolor enamels and Xtracrylix acrylics.
The decals are beautifully printed and feature thin carrier film.
It's great to see that Hannants once again providing interesting marking options for a brand new kit. The alternative markings will be welcomed by RAF modellers.
Highly Recommended.
