Overview
Modern jett colour schemes occasionally get a bit of bad press for being a bland with the proliferation of low-vis schemes and markings.
These decals from Xtradecal address that issue with a couple of schemes for RAF Eurofighter Typhoons that are more colourful.
The Decals
Two schemes are offered.
They are:
- Scheme 1 is for ZK343 ‘BX’ A Typhoon FGR.4 of 29 Squadron Royal Air Force based at RAF Coningsby. The scheme is the standard BS318C:626 Grey with BS 381C:642 Black Tail and Upper Canard surfaces.
Decals cover the large XXX motifs for the Tail as well as the stylised ‘Hawk’ motif for the tail.
- Scheme 2 is for ZK 342 ‘ED’ A Typhoon FGR.4 of 6 Squadron Royal Air Force, RAF Lossiemouth 2014. Again the scheme is predominantly BS318c:626 Grey but with a tail and fuselage spine aft of the canopy in a representation of WW2 Desert Camouflage colours of Dark Earth and Middle Stone.
The instructions supply a "Modellers’ Note" regarding the WWII colours, specifically that the colours in reality differ a bit from the WWII standards.
So these are two colourful schemes with which to work.
The sample decals were nicely printed and perfectly in register with minimal carrier film.
The only caveat is I suppose is the need to augment the sheet with kit-sourced stencils.
Recommended for those building an RAF Typhoon and looking for an interesting schemes beyond the normal Low Vis options.
Thanks to Hannants for this sample.
