Vingtor is a Norwegian company whose decals, unsurprisingly, often have a Norwegian focus.
The decals are supplied in the ever-popular polythene zip-lock bag. The colour-printed instructions consist of a single folded A4 sheet using English text. The last page has useful note on kit choices and information concerning RNoAF Safirs; like the fact bucket seats were used because instructors and students typically wore parachutes they sat on, and a Plexiglas window was located in the upper fuselage behind the cockpit.
The information on the last page is easy to overlook because of the small print used and a possible assumption it just blurb on how to apply decals etc. It does of course include guidance on decal use, but the extra information provided is most informative, and well worth reading.
The set reviewed here covers three options, for which the painting & marking guide has profile and plan views. Whilst only three schemes are illustrated, there does seem to be enough squadron codes and aircraft serial numbers to cover most RNoAF Safirs. Notes on the numbering and code systems used at different times are also provided. Paint colours are mentioned in the rear page notes using military names and FS-595 codes, and include comments on colour fading.
Instrument face decals are provided in the case of the 1/48 option, but not in 1/72 scale for some reason.
The decals are printed in the Czech Republic by BOA, and appear to be of excellent quality in all respects. The instructions mention that Micro-Set is all that is required to get the decals to conform with most surfaces; and a little Micro-Sol for really difficult areas.
This well researched decal set includes useful guidance and superbly produced decals. Whilst obviously aimed at RNoAF fans, the options are nonetheless appealing in their own right. I am happy to recommend them.
