The Freightdog Models brand should be well known to many for its range of kits, conversions, accessories and decals covering things British. The decals that are subject of this first look do not get much more British than Canberras in RAF service.
It represents a selection of five Canberras covering periods of service from 1956 to 1973, in so doing offers a nice selection of attractive colour schemes. The options covered by this set are:
-
Canberra B.6 WH970, 12 Sqn Operation Musketeer, Malta 1956;
-
Canberra B.6 WH948, 101 Sqn, Operation Mileage, Malaya 1955;
-
Canberra B.16 WH570, 6 Sqn Akrotiri Strike Wing, Cyprus 1968;
-
Canberra E.15 WH948, 98 Sqn, RAF Cottesmore 1972; and
-
Canberra B.2 WK116, 100 Sqn, RAF Raynham 1973.
The decals come in the almost universal zip-lock plastic bag, along with a colours & markings guide of one folded A4 and a single A5 page. These are nicely printed in colour, and have plenty of paint cross-references. These include both BS381C and FS 595 codes, plus colour numbers from the Humbrol, Xtracolour, Xtracrylix, Lifecolour, and Modelmaster paint ranges. The decals appear perfectly registered with good colour density. A sensible amount of fine stenciling is provided where applicable.
This sheet is limited to run of 150 sheets only, and includes enough roundels and basic stencilling to complete two models. Freightdog recommends the decals be used with the High Planes B.2/6 kits, or the Airfix B(I).8 with Aeroclub’s B.2/6 nose conversion set. The same five decal subjects are also available from Freightdog in 1/144 scale.
This is a quality package with superb decals and good colour scheme and placement guides. The RAF Canberra subject selections are, I think, appealing ones. Definitely recommended, get them whilst they remain available.
