With the upcoming release of the Kinetic Mirage 5, Daco products have reprinted this extensive decal sheet of the Mirage 5 and its service within the Belgian Air Force.

Included in the A5 ziplock bag is a full colour A5 painting and stencilling guide for three different camouflage schemes of the 63 BA single seaters, 16 BD dual seat trainers and 27 BR reconnaissance aircraft. The camouflage schemes include all natural metal, three tone SEAC over light grey and full three tone SEAC wraparound that became standard in 1981.

Outlined in the notes is the habitual zapping of the Mirages during the 1970's. Many of the zappings are provided on the decal sheet with some of them quite comical. One set that is of note is what appears to be yellow owl footprints making their way down from the top of the fin then across and down the fuselage to the starboard side intake. Other zaps include a variety of flashes, crests, text, figures and motifs. It seems that none of the airframes avoided being zapped particularly when exercising with other squadrons.  Zaps usually remained until the aircraft was repainted.

An excellent set of black and white line diagrams of the aircraft with colour stencil locations is included. Scrap diagram for the reconnaissance and dual seat noses are provided. Stencils are also provided for the drop tanks. An addendum for the stencil and zap placement locations is available from the DACO website.

Completing the instruction booklet is a diagram showing the placement guide for the Mirages that went through the MIRSIP (MIRage Safety Improvement Program) upgrade.

Conclusion

This is an excellent set from Daco that will certainly give your Mirage 5 a great look. The decals have been designed from photo documentation supplied from several sources so I don't doubt the accuracy of the decals. There's no mention of who printed the decals but they look to be very well done. If there was any issue with the product it would be that only one set of stencils is provided. With such a large complications of schemes, markings and zaps, who wouldn't want to build a few examples from this sheet? Recommended.

Thanks to Daco for the samples
