Background

The SK-1 type ejection seats were fitted to the early models of the MiG-21 that featured the forward hinged canopy. The largest visual difference was the arming hinge above the seat that would fold down when the canopy was closed.

FirstLook

Cast in the standard Eduard grey resin, the SK-1 ejection seat is broken into quite a few components.

Oddly though this resin item features less parts than the plastic SK-1 ejection seat found in the MiG-21PF. As is expected with resin, the detail is a vast improvement over it’s plastic cousin.

Construction is quite straight forward. The seat pan, lower cushion, lower frame, rear frame, foot restraints and rear support beams are moulded as a single piece.

The single piece headrest and arming plate is then added to the main structure.

Following this the telescope and stabilising chute is then added. to complete the seat it is then a matter of adding the etch components which includes the rear padded cushion, pre painted belts and ejection handle.

Conclusion

Because of its skeletal construction, Eduard’s new SK-1 ejection seat for the MiG-21PF is logically broken down into primary components. For those that want to try it painting of all of the components could be successfully completed. This seat will look certainly added some visual interest to a MiG-21PF cockpit particularly if the canopy should be posed open.

Recommended.

Thanks to Eduard for the samples and images.
