Review Type: |
Extremely fine detail |
Advantages: |
Good quality, improved scale finesse.
|
Disadvantages: |
None apparent, however considerable care is needed removing bomb-mounts form their casting blocks. |
Conclusions: |
These are superbly detailed bomb racks that will reward patient and careful assembly. The degree of detail is only really apparent, to my old eyes at least, under magnification. Real care will be need when removing the bomb-mounts from their casting blocks as they are very delicate, with a fare amount of resin web to clean up.
I am very impressed with what Advanced Modeling has to offer, and happily recommend their MBD3-U6-68 Multiple Bomb-Racks. |

Advanced Modeling is new to me, although I understand that the company has been around for a while. It soon became clear after a bit of Googling that they specialise in modern Russian airborne weapons. However, I was unable to find any online information about the company itself, so I contacted the Russian owner, Mikhail Putnikov, to find out a little more.
He advised me that the team at Advanced Modeling’s are all skilled modellers focused on producing really accurate modeling products. When developing 3D models they use original technical drawings and check their results against real ammunition! The company does not currently have a website as all efforts are focused on expanding their product range. Distribution is through a growing number of on-line stockists and distributors; currently these include:
MBD3-U6-68 Multiple Bomb Rack Set
The two bomb racks come packaged in two small bags, further enclosed in a resealable cellophane bag with a card stiffener. Attached to the card stiffener are fold-out instructions with English and Russian text. These indicate that the racks are suitable for use with Mig-27, Su-17/22, Su-24, Su-25, Su-27, Su-34 and Tu-134Sh aircraft.
The instructions use clearly dawn assembly diagrams, and caution the builder to note that left and right handed parts are involved, with their orientation indicated on the casting block. So don’t rip into things and remove all the parts before checking this aspect out. The need to add some wire to represent the rack’s associated cabling is also indicated.
The racks each consist of a main beam, six separate bomb-mounts, and two mounting brackets for attaching the main beam to the intended aircraft.
The detail is superb for the scale, and very delicate. The casting appears flawless, but each of the delicate bomb-mounts will require careful cleanup as they are cast within a thin web of resin that surrounds each part. The left and right parts are indicated by the letters “L” & “R” cast in to the sides of two of the three blocks containing the bomb-mounts. The third block has no letter, so obviously this block holds the mounts for the beam’s centreline.
I have included three images provided by Advanced Modeling that clearly illustrate this complex looking mount.
