Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 and Opel Blitz 3-Ton Truck

Tamiya's 1/48 scale Opel Blitz truck is available online from Squadron

Description

Here is my Tamiya 1/48 scale Opel Blitz and Eduard 1/48 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6.

I have converted Eduard's Bf 109 G-6 into components for transport. I found a wartime illustration showing this configuration, and I just knew that I had to build it.

I used one of the two kits included in Eduard's "Royal Class" Bf 109 G boxing, plus the firewall and a few other items from the BRASSIN Bf 109 G-6 engine set.

I also used the Eduard "Super Fabric" harness straps for the first time. Very impressive - handles and drapes like fabric - and easy to use.

The conversion elements - the wing roots, wing separation, the jigs and mounts - were all built using plastic sheet and strip.

It's not 100% accurate but it gives an idea of the configuration and is also a striking illustration of the size of even a small fighter aircraft compared to a 3 ton truck.

The aircraft conversion will be described in detail in Issue 55 of Military Illustrated Modeller magazine, and the Opel Blitz will be covered in Issue 115 of Model Military International magazine.

Thanks to Eduard and Tamiya for the samples
