It’s no surprise that Xtradecal should release some markings options to coincide with Airfix’s release of their new tool Bristol Blenheim Mk.I kit, reviewed separately here on HyperScale recently.

The Blenheim served with quite a wide variety of operators, and offers the possibility of many different colour schemes. As is apparent from the title, this is the first sheet covering RAF, FAA, and foreign usage (excluding Finland - I hope we see a sheet covering Finnish options in the future ).

Two more sheets have been announced so far; Part 2 Mk I, If & IV (all RAF), and Part 3 Mk.IV RAF & Overseas Operators.

The Decals

The decals are supplied in Xtradecal’s usual A5 polythene zip-lock bag. The instructions are nicely produced in colour, and clearly indicate markings placement. A brief note regarding the aircraft and its station location is given for each subject.

Unsurprisingly, a list of Xtracolor paint codes is also provided for the colours required. The decals look to be superbly printed and with excellent colour density.

The set reviewed here covers eleven options; all of which are quite appealing in my opinion. The subjects are:

  • L1145 57 Sqn RAF Upper Heyford 1938;

  • K7037 90-B 90 Sqn RAF Bicester 1938;

  • K7159 YX-N 54 OTU RAF Church Fenton 1941;

  • L1210/P 771 Sqn FAA RNAS Halton 1942;

  • L6670 UQ-R 211 Sqn Menidi Greece 1940;

  • 1506 Croatian AF 1942;

  • B268 32nd Bomber Sqn Menidi Greek AF 1941;

  • No 25 2nd Long Range Recon  Sqn, Royal Romanian AF 1941;

  • 2502 Turkish AF 1937; 160 R.

  • Yugoslav AF 1937, overall silver; 3560 R.

  • Yugoslav AF 1941 camouflaged.
