Super Scale have been manufacturing decals for a long time across a broad range of subjects, era and scales. This new sheet of the Boeing T-45C Goshawk in 1/48th adds to their modern jet inventory. In this case we look at a colourful Commander’s jet belonging to the ‘Golden Eagles’ of VT-22.
As with all most modern training squadrons, aircraft are usually painted in a hi visibility paint scheme that allows them to be seen from a distance and at various aspect angles. In the case of the US Navy, they’re usually found in white with a variety of red and orange sections across the fuselage allowing even greater visibility. The single option of the T-45C provided on this sheet displays this type of scheme very well. What makes this scheme even more interesting is the additional and very striking squadron artwork. Adorning the mid fuselage area is a large eagles head with red scallops trailing rearwards over the tail and sides of the fin fuselage.
One piece decals are provided for the eagle head and red scallops for both sides of the fuselage however the decal is only supplied up to the base of the fin. You will need to mix your own paint to match the red of the decal. Federal Standard colour FS11136 is quoted as the red however it will probably pay to match the colour to the decal.
Four place national insignia is provided. The underside insignia for the starboard wing falls across an aileron fairing and Superscale have been generous enough to break the decal into three pieces to help reduce distortion of the decal over the lumpy surface. Additionally, the ‘NAVY’ text on the lower port wing is also broken into three pieces for the same reason. Finally, decals are provided for the warning stencils, intake warning scallops and canopy detonation cords.
Printed by Cartograf and produced by Superscale this sheet will turn a run of the mill brightly coloured T-45 into an even more brightly coloured and lairy T-45C. If you like you US Navy trainers bright, get yourself a copy of this sheet. Recommended
Thanks to Squadron for the samples.
