The J33 was the Venom NF 51 Night fighter variant used by the Swedish airforce from 1953-1960. The aircraft were based at Västerås.

Covering the use of the night fighter variant of the Venom in Swedish Air Force service, this decal sheet provides six colourful marking options though only enough marking options are provided for one aircraft. Sweden primarily used the Venom in the night fighter role, though as the airframe aged and new aircraft replaced them, several of the airframes were converted to target towing duties. Several of those aircraft are supplied on this sheet. Maestro Models have released their own 1/72 resin kit of the J33 Venom and it appears that this decal sheet is the same item that can be found in the kit release. The instruction suggest that the decals would appropriate for a converted Frog/Novo kit.

The decals are supplied in a ziplock back with a separate A4 sheet of instructions per aircraft. Five of the six aircraft are provided with black and white instructions while the final is provided in colour. Each scheme is annotated with information specific to each scheme and appropriate references are supplied to support the information. The decals are well printed with no visible registration and the legibility of the stencils is excellent with the text easily readable under magnification.

The aircraft marking options supplied are:

  1. 33015 Red Petter F1 Wing, Västerås, late fifties

  2. 33042 Yellow Kalle F1 Wing Västerås, destroyed in the air above F1, 1 June 1959

  3. 33010 Red Johan F1 Wing Västerås circa 1953-1954

  4. 33025 SE-DCD at Visdel during the sixties, used for flare evaluation and target towing. Now on public display at the Swedish Air Force museum as 33025 Blue Erik.

  5. 33015 SE-DCA Visdel. This aircraft was used for Jindivk guidance. It is now on display at Visdel in its Jindivik guidance role.

  6. 33017 Blue Adam F1 Wing Vasteras, mid fifties.

Conclusion

This is a very well produced decal sheet covering some unique schemes of the Venom in Swedish service. Covering the use of the Venom across its service life, it certainly presents some interesting options. Recommended
