FirstLook

Iliad Design has released these markings options to presumably compliment Airfix’s release of their very nice new-tool Hurricane Mk.I fabric-wing early this year (reviewed here on HyperScale in February).  The decals will of course be equally welcome by owners of the Sword fabric-wing kit, which has also been re-released by AZ Model in a couple of boxings.

The sheet reviewed here cover pre-war RAF aircraft and a machine in civil markings that was used by Hawker as a demonstrator and test-bed aircraft.

The decals are supplied in Iliad Design’s usual zip-lock plastic bag. The instructions are nicely produced in colour and clearly indicate markings placement. A brief note regarding each subject advises colours and marking information, whether a two or three-blade propeller was fitted, and if the early style kidney exhausts are applicable.

The subjects, all early Hurricane Mk I’s, are as follows:

  • L1934, No 3 Sqn, July 1939;

  • L1568, No 73 Sqn, 1938;

  • L1643, No 85 Sqn, winter 1938/39;

  • L1975, No 17 Sqn, early1939;

  • L1990, No 56 Sqn, mid 1939;

  • 315, Bo 1 Sqn RCAF, summer 1939; and

  • L1606 re-registered as G-AFKX with Hawker.

The decals look to be superbly printed with excellent colour density.
