Review Type: |
First Look. |
Advantages: |
Handy insurance against see translucency. |
Disadvantages: |
None apparent. |
Conclusion: |
These sets should prove handy for those who wish to ensure no see through paint demarcation, or to cope with translucent stars and bars decals. It might seem a bit of a “belt & braces” approach given that most decals are okay, but for the price are a worthwhile insurance to have if you get caught out – Recommended. |

The purpose of the backing patches is clearly to provide additional opaqueness behind standard stars & bars decals when required, or indeed as a precaution, for poorly printed decals or dark areas where backing colour shows through the decal.
This is no doubt a good idea, and expands on the RAF roundel and fin-flash backing patches Fantasy Printshop already offers.
Three packs were provided for review, although these lack any title or scale information, I know from FP’s website and their covering note that they are to 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32 scales; which should come as no surprise.
The three sets are all clearly and crisply printed with what appears to be good opacity. The sizes of stars & bars covered by each pack are 14”, 15”, 20”, 25”, 30”, 35”, 40”, 43”, 50” & 60”.
These sets should prove handy for those who wish to ensure no see through paint demarcation, or to cope with translucent stars and bars decals. It might seem a bit of a “belt & braces*” approach given that most decals are OK, but for the price are a worthwhile insurance to have if you get caught out – Recommended.
