Practice Bomb Carriers. There are numerous devices used to carry practice bombs, and the SUU-21 covers aircraft from the 1960s and 1970s including F-105, F-104, and F-4D aircraft. Now the video aviation website mentions that the weapons provided are “6 BDU48 plus 6 Mk75 bomblets” I feel that there may be a typo with the description.
The BDU-48 (Mk106) is a practice bomb that replicates a high drag weapon. I can find no reference to a Mk75. The SUU-21 did however also carry the BDU-33 (Mk76) and BDU-23. These practise bombs replicated low drag weapons and I have certainly dropped my fair share of “Blue Death” BDU-33s during my career.
This latest release from video aviation comes in a sturdy cardboard box with the resin in ziplock plastic bags. All parts look to be well cast and the SUU will need little effort to complete. The practice bombs will take a little more effort and under a coat of blue will look great. It is nice to see that decals, printed by Fantasy Printshop, include SUU markings and Remove Before Flight tags.
This is yet another nice weapons related resin aftermarket product from video aviation. I certainly hope that they can continue this with a 1/48 SUU-20. If you get the chance, check out their website and view the range of Ground Support Equipment (GSE). I can highly recommend this product.
My thanks to videoaviation for the review sample.
