P-51 D Mustang Resin Sets

Resin Improvement has quite an extensive range of detail and conversion parts in resin and both coloured and plain PE; they also offer and pre-cut paint masks. Their PE products are to be manufactured by Eduard, so the quality is automatically good. I assume Eduard is behind the paint masks and resin as well, as their quality is excellent too.

They sets reviewed here come in a zip-lock plastic bag with card header. The quality of resin casting is very good for both sets, and they are both very simple.

The control surfaces are designed to replace the single-piece kit parts. The separate elevators and tailplane set basically saves time if you want to reposition the kit’s elevators. But if cash is tight I imagine many will cut the kit parts themselves if inlined. As such this set is a bit of a luxury, but not an expensive one.

I assume that the drop-tanks are an improvement on the kit parts, but I do not have an Airfix new-tool P-51D to confirm this. I think from studying photos of the finished kit that Airfix’s drop-tanks lack the flanged seam running around the tank’s horizontal circumference. If I am correct about the flange around the drop tanks, then RES-IM’s replacement tanks make good sense, as scratch-building the flange would be quite challenging.

The control surface set is a bit of a luxury, albeit an inexpensive one, if you wish to reposition the kit elevators. However, the drop-tanks seem more worthwhile if they do indeed correct an inaccuracy with the Airfix kit items. Both are sets are good quality and I am happy to recommend them.
