Radu Brinzan’s RB Productions line includes 34 photo-etched detailing sets, but only three of these are in 1/24 scale.  Two are radiator details for Airfix’s big Mosquito and Typhoon kits, and the third is this set of Luftwaffe rudder pedals.

The set is very simple:  one photo-etched fret containing eight parts, and one black and white, double sided instruction sheet.  Considerable thought has gone into both of these components.  Being 1/24 scale, the photo-etched parts are quite large and can hold more detail than equivalent 1/32 and 1/48 parts.  This detail closely matches that in full-sized pedals, to the extent that it will be a shame to hide it away in the cockpit!

Careful assembly is required to get the most out of the set.  All of the parts need to be bent and/or folded before being glued or soldered together.  Close study of the instructions should reveal where glue can be applied without this being visible on the finished pedals.

The instructions are small but perfectly formed, with five black and white photos stepping through how to assemble the pedals.  The photos are from different angles and include numbered arrows that clearly identify which parts go where.  There are also several colour photos of the assembled pedals on the RB Productions website.

The instructions include a useful diagram showing how to curve photo-etched parts.  Personally, I would be reluctant to attempt this set without the use of a dedicated photo-etched bending tool.

RB Productions recommends this set for use on “German aircraft such as Bf 109, Fw 190, [and] Ju 87”.  My references largely corroborate this, although a different style of rudder pedal appears to have been used on early Bf 109s.

As always, satisfy yourself that the pedals are appropriate for the machine you are modelling before purchasing and installing them.
