Review Type: |
First Look. |
Advantages: |
Improves detail levels, especially in the cockpit. |
Disadvantages: |
None apparent. |
Conclusions: |
The Platz have already given us a very nice kit of the Mitsubishi F-1 at a very sharp price. Even so, the appearance of the finished model will definitely be improved by this very good quality detail set. With the possible exception of the undercarriage placards, there are no extraneous items included. Recommended. |

I reviewed Platz’s very nice Mitsubishi F-1 kit here on HyperScale in late January this year. At the time, I concluded that the cockpit detail was adequate. Well, if adequate detail is insufficient for you, there is now a coloured PE detail set to address your concerns.
Like other coloured PE sets offered by Platz, this one is manufactured for them by Eduard (in fact, it seems almost all coloured PE is manufactured by this Czech company!), so the quality of the product is not in doubt.
The set comes in a heat-sealed cellophane bag with card backing. This encloses the folded A-5 sized instructions and the PE fret further protected in its on sealed bag. The diagrammatic instructions are well drawn and very clear to follow.
The set addresses the instrument panel, rudder pedals, cockpit side consoles, seat harness, seat side-frames, firing handles, and cockpit coaming. It also provides for internal canopy framing, rear vision mirrors, and canopy supports. The remainder of the fret caters for various navigation lights, blade antennae and undercarriage leg placards.
The set costs around 58% the kit’s price, which may seem a lot; but in reality, it is not, because the kit is bargain-priced to begin with (at about US$19.00 in Japan). The price of the coloured PE is comparable to similar sets by Eduard, RES-IM and others.
Platz has already given us a very nice kit of the Mitsubishi F-1 at a very sharp price. Even so, the appearance of the finished model will definitely be improved by this very good quality detail set. With the possible exception of the undercarriage placards, there are no extraneous items included.
Recommended.
