Review Type: |
First Look. |
Advantages: |
Simple with low price. |
Disadvantages: |
Grass effect is unconvincing. |
Conclusions: |
These are simple and fairly inexpensive bases to add interest to a range of 1/144-scale model subjects. The will, I think, look their best when mounted on solid base of some kind, and possibly cut into a circle or irregular shape.
The grassy surface is the least convincing, although some will accept the 2-D compromise. I would be inclined to use grass flock or other N-Gauge railroad scenic materials for this surface type, including those section of the RAF Taxiway (MKA14403) that use it too.
All but the grass surface are recommended. |

Mark I Models has introduced a range of attractively priced colour printed bases to compliment their range of 1/144-scale aircraft kits; and of course those by other brands.
Two sizes are offered, 144mm x 115mm and 115mm x 9mm, or for our American readers, approximately 5.5” x 4.5” and 4.5” x 3.5” respectively. There is only three of the larger size; one of these, the WWII Luftwaffe Base is duplicated in the smaller series. There is no price difference between large and small bases. Each card comes packed as single edition in a zip-lock plastic bag.
Quality appears fine, although I consider the grassy surface (MKA14407) to be unconvincing due to its two-dimensional nature. I would be inclined to use grass flock or other N-Gauge railroad scenic materials for this surface type, including those section of the RAF Taxiway (MKA14403) that use it too.
