Brett Green built the new 1/48 Airfix Spitfire Mk.XIX late last year. In the build he used some components from Roy Sutherland’s old Cooper detail set for the Spitfire 22/24. If he’d waited a while he could have used this set as it provides all that is needed.

This etch set replaces all of the instrument overlays as well as replacing many of the kits solid plastic items with etch items.

The instrument panels gets the full works. The panel itself uses the popular method of printing the instrument faces on a backing panel and then overlaying the etch instrument faces and bezels. The gear up/down lever is replaced as is the camera control box at the top of the instrument panel. The compass also also gets a work over with an etch frame and printed dial face. Rudder pedals are replaced and the control column has some small items added to the grip.

Moving away from the panel the majority of the interior of the cockpit is enhanced in the way of replaced items including a new throttle quadrant, trim wheels, toggles and switches and levers and a first aid box. The set also provides seatbelt straps and buckles.

Conclusion

This is a very comprehensive set that brings some additional and welcomed fidelity to the cockpit. Though limited only to the cockpit, this set is a worthy investment. The additional details and petite detail in some of the components will add much welcomed visual interest to the cockpit.
