FirstLook

AIM-54A Phoenix

These AIM-54A missiles from Eduard would easily be some of the nicest detailed Phoenix missiles in 1/72. With the missiles themselves, there is minimal construction required. There is a small amount of cleanup of flash between the main and rear fins, and on the nose, once the casting plug on the rear of the missile is removed and replaced with PE (to restore lost detail) you are done. Each missile comes with a complete set of decals and a painting guide. I really like their construction, finish, and overall detail.

AIM-7E

This is another very simple weapons set to enhance any Sparrow equipped fighter. The level of casting and detail is of the high standard we expect from Eduard, in fact these are exact miniatures of the 1/48 AIM-7E that I have previously reviewed. Minimal clean-up as always, and to assist you, there are locating holes on the missile body, so be very careful not to remove the locating pins from the fins when you separate them from the casting block.
To illustrate the advantages of resin over injected plastic I have included some comparison images with the same weapons from a previously reviewed 1/72 Tomcat. You can see the extra detail, especially when you compare the fins, the resin fins are accurate in aerodynamic profile compared to the injected plastic missiles.

Conclusion

Due to the simple construction and excellent detail, I can highly recommend these missiles for your next late 20th century fast jet build.

Thanks to Eduard for the samples.
