Hawker Typhoon Mk.IB

Hasegawa's 1/32 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 is available online from Squadron.com

Description

I built the Airfix 1/24 scale Hawker Typhoon during April and Chris Wauchop painted the model in May. You can see what the model looked like a few weeks ago by following this link.

After we had taken photos of the model with the engine and gun bays exposed, Chris said that he would like to see if he could fit the cowlings over the engine detail.

It turns out he could, but only after hacking off a lot of the existing engine parts!

Chris managed to fit the wing root panels, radiator cowls and engine cowls to create quite a different look for the big Airfix kit. He also closed the port side gun bay.

The cowl parts were touched up with Gunze acrylics using Testor's metal bodied Aztek airbrush fitted with the fine tan coloured tip.

Chris used Xtradecals' 1/24 scale Typhoon decals, Item No. X24003, for the unique markings. These are available right now from Hannants.

This model, including more details of how Chris converted the cowlings, will be showcased in the next book from ADH Publishing, "How to Build the Airfix 1:24 Hawker Typhoon Mk.IB". This new book features an exhaustive step-by-step guide to construction with modelling contributions by Marcus Nicholls, Chris Wauchop and myself.

Available early July. Pre-order now!
