Azerbaijan's MiG-21 fleet, originally numbering approximately twenty, was acquired from Ukraine in 1992 during the bitter conflict with Armenia over the disputed mountainous territory of Karabakh. These MiG-21SMs (effectively Soviet MFs) were used extensively in the air-to-ground role until a tenuous ceasefire was declared in 1994. For the better part of the next decade, until newer equipment was  acquired, Azeri MiG-21s soldiered on as the AzAF's only realistic fixed wing attack aviation assets.

This is a very quick review tonight on one of the more recent decal releases from Linden Hill Decals (LHD), but do not let size fool you. As with all the releases from LHD the research, design and historical information supplied is exhaustive. This decal sheet features two of the four surviving SMs, which were photographed by LHD colleagues in 2012.

The aircraft covered are:

  • MiG-21SM Yellow 17, and

  • MiG-21SM Yellow 45 both based at Kyurdamir Air Base


Get in quick as these are limited releases with LHD 48031, 72031 and 32019, each in limited editions runs of 100 sheets.

 

 

Conclusion

 

Another great set from Linden Hill Decals, the decals are LHDs usual high standard of production and come highly recommended.

Highly recommended.
