The Canadair CF-5 (officially designated the CF-116 Freedom Fighter) was the Canadair licensed-built version of the American Northrop F-5 Freedom Fighter aircraft primarily for the Canadian Forces. The CF-5 was upgraded periodically throughout its service career in Canada.
The Canadian Forces retired the type in 1995, although CF-5s continued to be used by other countries into the early 21st century.*
Kinetic released a 1/48 scale F-5A Freedom Fighter in August 2012. One of the marking options for this kit was a Canadian CF-5A.
Cockpit detail is adequate, but no harness straps are supplied for the seat.
Kinetic has addressed this issue by releasing a specific photo-etched cockpit upgrade for the Canadian variants of the F-5A.
This simple but very effective detail set comprises one fret of colour photo-etched parts for the instrument panel, side consoles. harness straps, gun sight, handles and other smaller details. Clear acetate reflectors are included for the gunsight too.
The fret has been produced for Kinetic by Eduard.
This is a simple but very useful upgrade for anyone wanting to build a Canadian CF-5A / CF 116A.
Highly Recommended.
