PE fret in each case with variable numbers of parts. Frets which include cockpit details have an acetate transparency to provide for instrument faces behind the PE instrument panels. |
Review Type: |
First Look. |
Advantages: |
Good scale finesse, very good quality production, |
Disadvantages: |
No colour call-outs |
Conclusions: |
These are all good quality and comprehensive detail sets. Their instructions are sufficiently clear to guide the modeller, but lack colour call-outs. They will enhance any of the RS Models Airacobra kits. The way the flap ribs are done seems a good idea to me, and with potentially two open car-doors, a lot of the cockpit detail will be visible.
Definitely recommended. |

The accessory sets reviewed here each come in a cellophane bag stapled to a card header, and all come with instructions. However the instructions lack colour call-outs, so some reference hunting will be needed in many cases. In each case the PE frets are produced to very high standards. They are intended for the recently released series of Airacobra kits by RS Models. These look to be nicely executed kits, but they will still benefit from the detail finesse that Brengun's PE parts offer.
I have used several of Brengun’s own images from their web-site as they illustrate the assembled item which is often more informative than an image of a PE fret alone.
- BRL72049 - Flaps for P-39/P-400: Like most PE flaps, these will need care in assembly. However, the ribs are attached to each other, rather than being etched as individual tiny parts. I think that should aid construction quite a bit.
- BRL72050 - P-39Q/L/N & P-400: This is a comprehensive set for the recently released RS kits. It provides seat, three choices of instrument panel, seat & belts, rudder pedals, throttle quadrant, boarding steps and other cockpit details, two complete cockpit doors, undercarriage doors, torque-links, bomb fins and fuse arming propeller, radiator hot air vents, and various matrix faces, a drop-tank filler cap and a tiny pitot head.
- BRL72051 - P-39D/Airacobra Mk.I: Essentially the same parts as BRL72050 above, but only one style of instrument panel.
(Now all we need is someone to offer vac-from canopies for these kits to top things off.)
I highly recommend all of three sets.
