Eduard's 1/48 scale Hawker Tempest is available online from Squadron
This Tempest stems from Eduard's recently released 1/48 scale Profi Pack edition, which offers short run styrene parts from the companys early years plus all the welcome benefits of Eduards range of resin and etched parts.
Parts fit was found to be rather basic and you have to cope with a lot of filling and sanding during the build, but the result seems to be worth the effort.
Building this kit you have to handle one rather strange problem: the resin cockpit- very well done and of inspiring richness of detail by the way- will protrude into the place where the wheel bays are expected to be. I did not come to another idea than sawing out the required place on the wheel bay parts and cover the now visible corners of the cockpit construction with bended etched sheet plates.
Historically not really correct- and fortunately not really visible… Would be interesting for me to hear of a more sophisticated solution to this issue!
I opted for one of the markings offered in the kit. This Hawker Tempest displays the appaerance of Wing Commander Roland P. Beamonts aircraft, flown with No. 150 Wing from Castle Camps in early 1944. Beamont was closely connected with the development of proper tactics for Hawkers new high-performance fighter and displayed notably skill in combating the deadly Fi-103 „V-1“ flying bomb.
