Trumpeter's 1/48 scale Hawker Sea Fury is available onine from Squadron
A lot of the specifications describing the Hawker Sea Fury can be expressed with superlatives - and that does not only mean the engineering issues!
Not only was this imposing fighter-bomber the fastest piston-engine driven aircraft ever built in large production numbers, it also may well be one of the most beautiful and breath taking airplane designs.
I opted for the early style camouflage, showing a Sea Fury being flown in 1948.
Trumpeter's 1/48 scale kit, it´s a pity to say, is far from superlatives. Its well known faults and flaws like too small main tires, the spinner being not in shape or the incorrect form oft he exhaust fairings have often been described.
I responded to these challenges with filling and sanding sessions on the exhausts, the exchange of the styrene tires with resin ones from Barracuda Cast and some scratched parts inside the main wheel bays. Trumpeter's cockpit interior has been replaced by etched parts from Eduard. Hypothermic needles for the gun nozzles and a deepdrawn teardrop canopy complete the modifications.'
It has to be said that the fit of parts is excellent and the reasonable parts breakdown makes a easy and satisfying build likely; also the decals have been found to be of superb qualitiy.
