Tamiya 1/72 scale conversion
Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-4

by Roy Sutherland

Tamiya's 1/72 scale Fw 190 A-4 is available online from Squadron

Description

This is my second completed model of the year. That sounds pretty good on the face of it, but not when you consider that I started this model more than 5 years ago.

I built this beautiful little kit with only small improvements. An old Cooper Details seat, stick and gunsight were added to the cockpit, along with etched Eduard shoulder straps.

The only work necessary for the conversion was a new scratchbuilt finpost. I added a BarracudaCast prop and spinner to correct the slightly undersized spinner and narrow prop blades. A BarracudaCast mainwheels and geardoors set was used to replace the undersized mainwheels and the overly thick geardoors.

The real work on this model was the very complex finish. I learned a lot while painting this model, and share my newly learned techniques in Spencer Pollards new book, Building Tamiya Aircraft Models. My little Wurger will be featured in a chapter of this new how to reference, which should be out soon!

The new book will be available in the coming weeks.

More information will be available closer to release.
