Eduard's 1/48 scale F6F-3 Hellcat ProfiPACK is available online from Squadron
Within Grumman's zoo of dangerous cats, the F6F claims a prominent position: nearly 60 percent heavier as its predecessor, the F4F Wildcat, the Hellcat displays improved armour, a increased power rated engine and real hard punching armarment. Not only being a real „pilots aircraft“, the Hellcat was also sturdy and easy to maintain; it seems as if the F6F was just the airplane Navy and Marines needed.
By 270 Hellcats being lost this type claims for more of half of all enemy aircraft destroyed by these armed forces.
My model represents a Hellcat flown from by VF-16 from USS Lexington in the spring of 1943. The red sorrounding of the stars and bars not only brings colour into the appearance but also dates that plane into a small time scale in the year 1943. The specific and nearly completely faded "OOI" marking on the cowling was achieved with lines of pastels under the colour shades.
Eduard's ProfiPACKoffers all the benefits of the companies rich pool of etched and resin parts for the cockpit, interior and the exterior. Plastic parts, particularly in the wheel bays and on the landing gear, are of impressive refinement and subtlety.
All in all it was a real pleasure to build!
