Special Hobby's 1/32 scale
Brewster Buffalo Mk.I

Brewster Buffalo Mk.I

Special Hobby's 1/32 scale Buffalo is available online from Squadron.com

Description

This is the Special Hobby kit. I build it using only the kit’s own components, and Eduard’s masking set (EDJX062, actually for the F2A, but it fits the Mk.1). Instead of using the kit’s own decals I chose the ones supplied by Dutch Decals. The aircraft I have represented was flown by Lt August (‘Guss’) Gerard Deibel (1915-1950) of the 1e VI.Gr, Military Air Service of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (ML-KNIL), based at Semplak, Indonesia, 1941-42.

I chose this because I am half-Dutch, and because of the fact that Deibel was knighted with the Order of Orange, and so was my uncle Leo van Stippent, after whom I'm named, although his knighthood was not for war service, but as a prison governor. During the war my uncle was made a slave worker by the Nazis. He escaped from where he was working in Germany and hid for the rest of the war - a long, colourful and scary story in its own right - and so it’s in his memory, as well as Deibel’s, and all the people of the Netherlands who lived through the war, that this model was made. May their sacrifices never be forgotten.
