1/32 Tamiya Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero
The Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter, also known as “Zeke”, was the most recognizable and reliable aircraft ever produced by the Imperial Japanese during WWII.
It was the first strategic, long range and carrier-based aircraft that consisted in two 7.7 mm machine guns on the cowling and two 20 mm cannons mounted in the wings. With its superb agility and firepower, the Zero gave the Japanese Naval Forces almost guarantee air superiority during the early years of WWII.
The Tainan Air Group was heavily involved in major campaigns like the Battle of New Guinea and Guadalcanal. The unit produced many legendary aces like Hiroyoshi Nishizawa and Saburo Sakai. Petty Officer 1st Class Saburo Sakai shot down between, is believed, 64 aircraft during WWII.
I used Tamiya’s 1/32 scale model kit for this project. I used Aires’ super detailed aftermarket cockpit set and 1/32 Yellowhammer decals to produce one of Saburo Sakai’s Zero fighter.
