Here is my Revell 1/32 scale Arado Ar 196.
Arado's versatile floatplane was the mainstay of German naval reconnaissance from the outbreak of the war till the end of the conflict. Therefore it was also used on the unique class of “Hilfskreuzer” or auxiliary cruisers, who were intended to raid enemy merchant ships in distant waters, operating autonomic and led by opportunity.
I was so fascinated by the new kit, that I decided to build three of them at a time… one should display the usual colours of RLM 65/ 72/ 73, but the two others had to be in alu/ aluminum dope.
At first, it looked like it would not be easy to find examples of natural metal Arados, but at least I jumped on the “Bordflieger” of the auxiliary cruiser “Widder”, who had its floatplane painted in a scheme to resemble a French navy plane. This included faked national emblems - a clear violation of the laws of war as I think. This happened in 1940, some pictures of the time show this aircraft also in the usual RLM colours - with fake French roundels…
If you are interested in the kit or the building process, have a look on the workbench at the JAM Forum: http://www.razyboard.com/system/morethread-arado-196-revell-132-kalamaki-raidenjack-2086023-6165740-0.html
