Here is Special Hobby's 1/32 scale A5M4 Claude.
My model depicts an A5M4 of Akagis Air Group, stationed at Omura Air Base in April 1941. There it was regularly flown by PO3/c Takashi Kura-uchi.
This agile fighter was first flown in 1935 and soon gained superiority over all aircraft wartime China could send into combat. Several variants of this well balanced and agile fighter, differing in fuselage shape, engine cowling and used power plant, have therefore been developed and sent to the combat units. Thanks to their performance, these machines even fought at the beginning of the Pacific War in front line units. It was here where they earned their allied codename “Claude”.
Special Hobby offers a typical short run kit: rather crude plastic, additional resin parts to replace the plastic ones and a whole bunch of etched parts. You have to make some parts for the engine details by yourself and there is, of course, a lot of test fitting, filling and sanding required. Nothing that will surprise- I can recommend that kit to everybody, who is willing to spend some time and a little extra effort to get a big scale representation of this beautiful and interesting fighter plane.
If you are interested in the building process, please take a look at the JAM forum.
