Eduard offers a truly superb kit with their 1/32 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-1.
The addition of etched parts, precut masking tape and a reasonable, well balanced parts breakdown ensure a joyful and trouble free build. The sole exception may be the rather poor fit of the fuselage on the nose; the inevitable sanding fills up the recessed panel lines, which have to be reworked - not a real problem at all though.
I used Gunze Acrylics and some pastel colours for the paintwork and the following weathering. Some of the cockpit and engine details were enhanced with hypotheric needles, copper wire and scratchbuild parts.
If you are interested in the building process, take a look at the JAM forum.
I opted for an appealing, rather “bewitched” looking E-1 offered in the kit. My model was the mount of Ofw. Kurt Ubben of 6.(J) Trägergruppe, stationed at Wangerooge in the spring of 1940. This unit was intended to serve onboard the never-to-be completed aircraft carrier “GrafZeppelin”.
Flying this Bf-109, “Kuddel” Ubben was fighting the first RAF raids against Germany. He scored his first victory – a Fokker D XXI -over DeKooy on 10. May 1940. It was the first of 110 aerial victories.
