Junkers Ju 52/3m g5e

Heller's 1/72 scale Ju 52 is available online from Squadron

This model took a whole year to be built. I made many modifications to the old, but still good Heller kit (Ju-52/3m g7e is in the box I believe)

• 90% interior is scratchbuilt

• panel lines sanded and scribed
  

• doors and the top cargo hatch (only g4e, -5e and -6e had it) were cut out and detailed from the inside

• tires "flattened" a little using putty and sandpaper

• generator and various antennas also scratchbuilt

• antenna cable made from stretched sprue

• Side windows made from Hubrol Clearfix

• Machine gun nest scratchbuilt using a watch gear, a resin gun pipe (Quickboost set QB72027) and a etched gunsight (Extratech set EX72121)

The interior corrugated detail was made out of aluminum foil. I put a piece of foil on the exterior detail and rubbed it with my finger or an eraser in the direction of the corrugations. Then I slowly placed the foil on a flat surface, secured its ends (so it won't wrinkle) and then gave it 2-3 thick coats of lacquer (never mind which one, it serves only to strenghten the foil and lacquered side will be glued to the interior).

I roughly estimated the amount of foil needed and made twice as much in a single go. Of course, this was a trial-and-error process and much more was needed at the end... :)

There are no decals on this model. This was my first attempt of using masks (Montex Super Mask 72002). They depict a 9/ZG26 Ju-52 as depicted during Battle of France (May 1940).

The colors used were mostly my own mixes of RLM02, 65, 70, 71 and others using mostly Molak and Humbrol enamel paints with a Revell MasterclassPro airbrush.

This model won a 2nd place on 2nd New Year Cup in Belgrade in dec 2009.
