Zotz Decals can be relied on to offer some interesting markings for unusual aircraft subjects.
With all the (completely justified) commotion surrounding the brand new 1/32 scale Tamiya Spitfire Mk.IXc, you might think that this release was a bit predictable. However, Zotz has taken a slightly different approach.
In addition to markings for five 1/32 scale Spitfire Mk.IXc subjects, Zotz has also supplied decals for three large scale highback Spitfire Mk.XIVs. Marking options for the Mk.XIV in large scale are hardly thick on the ground, so I am delighted to see that Zotz has chosen to cover this iconic late Spitfire variant on this sheet.
If you are wondering how you might build a Spitfire Mk.XIV in 1/32 scale, check out our July 2009 review of RB Productions' Spitfire Mk.XIV conversion for Pacific Coast Models' Spitfire IX.
All eight subjects are finished in Ocean Grey and Dark Green upper surfaces over Medium Sea Grey. Specifically, they are:
-
Spitfire XIVe, FF B, in SEAC markings with white theatre markings and spinner.
-
Spitfire XIVe, YB A, in SEAC markings with white theatre markings and black spinner.
-
Spitfire XIVe, DL K, with invasion stripes on the fuselage and striking nose art (a nude girl riding a V1)
-
Spitfire IXc (late), 5J K, with full invasion stripes and the letter K repeated on the rudder.
-
Spitfire Mk.IXc (late), DU N, with nose art, Czech roundel under the windscreen and victory marks.
-
Spitfire Mk.IXc (late), serial MK210. Test aircraft carrying gian nose art of a reclining nude.
-
Spitfire Mk.IXc (late), serial MK227 in Italian service with a blue spinner and art on the fin.
-
Spitfire Mk.IXc (late), ID unknown, in Greek service with shark mouth and two-tone blue spinner.
National markings are supplied for RAF European, SEAC, Greek and Italy. The colours and details of the decals are first class. Printing is perfect too, with all colours in register and thin carrier film.
Whether you are building a Spitfire Mk.IXc or a Mk.XIVe conversion in 1/32 scale, Zotz's latest release will be very welcome.
