Creighton Henthorn Jr. of MAW – Decals continues to delight the fans of U.S. military rotary wing aviation with this latest release.
This sheet also marks their initial foray into 1/35 scale and it provides markings for three Bell UH-1Ns of the United States Marine Corps.
The details of the individual options are as follows:
- Bureau Number 159194 of Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 263 (HMM-263) The Thunderchickens” as she appeared in 2004. This option as well as the other two on the sheet is finished in Federal Standard 35237 dark blue grey over Federal Standard 36375 light ghost grey with her markings are all in lo-viz grey. As with the vast majority of USMC aircraft she is fairly non-descript apart from a dragon’s head unit emblem on her engine cowling scoop.
- Bureau Number 160459 of Marine Light/Attack Helicopter Squadron-167
(HML/A-167) “The Warriors” from April 2005. Another non-descript machine with the exception of a red and black checker board unit marking on both sides of her tail boom.
- The final option is Bureau Number 160438, another HML/A-167 machine this time from February, 2005. More of the same with this one, low-viz grey with lo-viz grey markings.
The decals themselves have been printed by Cartograf and are top quality indeed. Everything on my sample is in perfect register and there is an absolute minimum of carrier film surrounding each design – less chance of silvering!! Each option gets its own set of stencil data, slime lights and national insignia which means you can build all three options on the sheet without recourse to your decal bank.
Whilst there is no recommendation as to what kit to use, the only one that I know of in 1/35 scale is the Panda one.
The placement guide/information sheets – two of them – are A-4 in size and printed on good quality glossy paper. You get full colour left and right hand side profiles of each option as well as individual upper and lower surface plan views.
This is another excellent sheet from MAW-Decals. It provides you with good quality markings for three November Hueys in 1/35 scale that will surely enhance the Panda UH-1N kit.
