For those not familiar with AirDOC, they are based in Germany and produce a vast range of high quality publications, decals and resin detail/conversion sets.
The subject of this review is No 9 in their Modern Combat Aircraft Special Series (APDS) and it covers the F-4 Phantom II in United States Marine Corps service.
The sub-title of the APDS series is “Bildband” or book of pictures and that is exactly what you get with this series, a pictorial history of the featured aircraft in the service of particular country. The text is in both English and German languages.
The book is logically laid out in that you are given a brief two-page introduction that covers the F-4 in USMC service including details on active duty in the South East Asian theatre, USMC F-4 active and Reserve squadrons; training, reconnaissance, and bases where the USMC F-4s were based. From there the book pictorially covers each squadron with sharp, clear full colour images. Most squadrons have three to four pages devoted to them but some of the Reserve squadrons only receive two-page coverage.
Again; this book is a pictorial history only and this it does exceptionally well with 220 first class colour photographs of not only the aircraft but also the squadron patches of its operators.
The book is soft back with thin card covers, A4 in size and comprises 76 Pages printed on high quality glossy paper.
AirDOC’s website lists the price at €14.95 or around USD$21.00 and AUS$27.00 which is excellent value for money for what you are getting as far as I am concerned.
If you are a modeller who is searching for guidance on painting your scale USMC
F-4 or for assistance in decal placement then this book will go a long way in providing it.
