This book is another in the AirDOC Modern Combat Aircraft Special Series (APDS).  This time the subject is the F-4E and RF-4E Phantom II in service with the Turkish Hava Kuvvetleri (Turkish Air Force).

For those not familiar with AirDOC’s ADPS series the word “Bildband” in the title translates to book of pictures and that is exactly what you get, a pictorial history of the featured aircraft in the service of particular country.  The text is in both English and German languages.

As with the other books I have seen in the APDS series from AirDOC, this one is logically laid out in that you are given a brief two-page introduction that informs you on the how’s and whys the F-4 came to serve with the Turkish Air Force as well as the modifications and enhancements it underwent.  The detail provided on these mods and enhancements is quite detailed indeed and even extends to what airframe underwent what mod and when.  There is also a brief paragraph on the different camouflage the machines wore as well as a table detailing the fate of each airframe lost in service.  From there the book pictorially covers the machines of each squadron of the Turkish Air Force that flew it with sharp, clear full colour images.  The images are more “whole of airframe” than walk-around in general but there are a (very) few close-ups of individual items.

Again, and I stress this, the book is a pictorial history only and this it does exceptionally well with some 120 first class colour photographs of not only the aircraft but also scans of the squadron patches of its operators.

The book is soft back with thin card covers, A4 in size and comprises 56 Pages printed on high quality glossy paper.

AirDOC’s website lists the price at €14.95 or around USD$21.00 and AUS$27.00 which is excellent value for money for what you are getting as far as I am concerned.

If you are a just fan of the F-4 itself or a modeller who is searching for guidance on painting a scale Turkish Hava Kuvvetleri F-4, this book will go a long way in satisfying the needs of you both.
