Airfix's 1/72 scale Nimrod is available online from Squadron.com

Here are two Airfix Nimrods – a kit I have been waiting for quite a long time. When it finally was out, I built two of them simultaneously; an early MR.1 and a current MR.2P.

The MR.1 was built out of the box with the addition of various small details that were scratchbuilt.

The MR.2P was ‘upgraded’ with an A2Zee Models resin weapons bay, which is a vast improvement compared to the kit parts. The inside of the bay doors received some detailing with Evergreen plastic profiles and wire.

The doors were then installed in the fully opened position for loading.

I painted the MR.1 in Tamiya White and Xtracolor Light Aircraft Grey.

The MR.2P is completely painted with Xtracolor – Hemp (Camouflage Beige) and LAG.

Decals for both aircraft were sourced from Model Alliance. They are very good. The kit decals are complete and correct as far as I can say but they lack quality the same quality as the Model Alliance product.

It took me a while to build these two and despite several shortcomings with the Airfix kit I enjoyed the build. I am very pleased wth the finished modes.
