Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-4

Eduard's 1/32 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-4 is available online from Squadron.com

Description

Here is my recently completed 1/32 scale Eduard Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-4. This model joins my 1/32 scale Eduard Bf 109 E-1 built earlier this year and described in detail elsewhere on HyperScale.

I decided to do a few things differently this time. Most noticeably, I assembled the kit with the engine cowling closed. Although the kit cockpit is beautifully detailed with its colour photo-etched parts, I adapted an old Cutting Edge resin cockpit for use in this model. I did make use of many of Eduard's colour photo-etched details though, including the instrument panel, switch panel and harness straps.

Kit decals for one of Adolf Galland's aircraft were used. The model was finished in "mixed greys" that were sometimes applied on the Channel Front prior to the eventual introduction of the mid-war RLM 74 / 75 / 76 scheme in 1941.

My trusty Testor Aztek airbrush was used to paint the model, and the flat finish is from Floquil.

The kit canopy was used. Although it has some dimensional errors, these are not very obvious when the canopy is posed open.

The construction, detailing and painting of this model will be described in detail in a new book from Classic Publications, due for release around the end of 2009.
