Eduard's 1/48 scale Royal Class Bf 110 C/D/E is available online from Squadron

Here is my scratch built Revi 12C gunsight.

I had to work from a few measured dimensions of the real thing and work out the sketches - I could hardly call them drawings. There were no works drawings that I could find and it was a help that I had worked out my own system of scaling from photos when I was doing the large airbrushed artwork.

The rest was just knife and fork building using styrene and Perspex rod and sheet. I used my homemade Perspex die and punch which means I can drill the holes to exactly the correct diameter for the screw heads and other circular pieces. The main circular part with the polished lens was turned Perspex but the rest is just styrene sheet.

I added the back up sight, consisting of the foresight [kreiskorn] and the bead sight which, on the real thing rotate 180 degrees to sit down the side of the sight .

I also included a proper placard on the left side. A friend laser cut it into a black printed magazine page and it looks the part. I also added some screw heads and guide pins here and there.

I experimented with the paint on the main casting, trying to get those different effects that occur in diecast metal and in that pale, slightly coppery colour that the sheet metal pressings were finished in. Unfortunately, I found out after I had finished my model that the body of the Revi 12 was usually painted silver, not bare die cast metal as I depicted. The one I used as a prototype had apparently been stripped.

I have made the mounting bracket on the panel so that the sight is removable in the hope that Eduard will do more panels and I don't have to build another sight. The panel looks somehow flat without the sight now and the whole thing will be part of the Dragon 110 display as they should complement each other nicely.

Not enough time to do all the models I have in mind, though!

I have to say I enjoy scratch building more than making kit models.
