We don't see many Autogyro kits in 1/48 scale, so AZ Model's Kayaba "Ka-Go" Ka-1 is an interesting subject choice.
AZ Model's 1/48 scale Ka-Go comprises
40 parts in tan coloured styrene, 2
parts in clear; 17 parts in pale yellow resin; 1 photo-etched fret; and two
marking options.
The plastic is very well done, with a satin texture and crisply recessed panel lines. The fabric texture on the bulk of the fuselage and tail planes is convincing. The outside surfaces are not troubled by any
moulding imperfections on my sample but some flash is present on many of the parts. There are no locating pins.
The resin parts are perfectly moulded and well detailed. These include an engine face, hollowed out exhaust stubs, wheels, seats, map case and other cockpit details.
The photo-etched fret offers harness straps and instrument panels for both cockpits.
Construction should be quite straightforward thanks to the small parts count, but care will be essential when aligning the fine undercarriage struts.
Two marking options are provided - one machine in overall dark green, and a second with tan blotches.
AZ Model's 1/48 scale KA-1 Autogyro is a well detailed and well executed kit.
The absence of locating pins and the need for additional cleanup means that this model will be best suited for modellers who have had some limited run experience, but the kit does not seem to present too many challenges.
Congratulations to AZ Model for this interesting and somewhat brave subject choice.

Thanks to Legato / AZ Models for the sample
