Wolfpak Decals has produced a fine quality decal sheet depicting four United States Air Force Aircraft. The decals are designed for the four 1/72 Scale aircraft a B52 of the 96 Bomber Wing, a T33 of the 325th TFTW, an A-7D of 388th TFW and a C-130H2 of 910th AW.
The decals are superbly printed by the Fantasy Print Shop with good colour saturation and register. As usual with Fantasy Print Shop decals the carrier film is ultra thin and my experience with Fantasy Print Shop decals in the past has been that the decals have to be handled carefully and will snuggle down into the surface detail well. The carrier film then almost totally disappears under a coat of clear.
The instructions also give some good detail on aircraft colours and decal placement for all of the aircraft.
The four schemes provided are as follows:
-
B-52D Serial No 56-067. This aircraft was assigned to the 96th Bomber Wing in 1979-1980. During the opening Linebacker II strike of December 18, 1972 this aircraft was assigned to the 307th Strategic Wing based at U-Tao AFB in Thailand. While using the call sign of Brown 03 for this mission the aircrafts gunner SSgt Samuel. O. Turner obtained a radar lock and shot down a MIG 21. This aircraft was the last B-52D in service retiring in 1983. The aircraft is finished in the standard SAC South East Asia scheme of Green FS34079, Green FS34159, and Tan FS34201 with Black FS17038 under surfaces and vertical fin. This aircraft is one of the two B-52s with confirmed MIG kills.
-
T-33 of 95th FITS based at Tindall Air Force Base in the early 1980s. The aircraft is finished in overall Aircraft Grey FS16473. Serial numbers are provided for aircraft 70608, 35900, and 80529. The rudder is finished in stars and stripes.
-
A-7D Sno 70-982 of the 3rd TFS, 388 TFW based at Korat AFB, Thailand in 1975 around the time of the US vessel Mayaguez rescue and the evacuation of Saigon. The aircraft is finished in the standard SAC South East Asia scheme of Green FS34079, Green FS34102, and Tan FS30219 with White under surfaces.
-
C-130H2 89-9106 of the 757th AS 910th AW at Youngstown Air Reserve Station in 2000. This aircraft was one of only four aircraft fitted with an underwing aerial spray system for herbicides, insect control agents, and has been tested for use in dispersing oil slicks. The aircraft is finished in the standard Euro 1 wrap around scheme of Gray FS36118, Green FS34092, and Green FS34102.
