AIMS Decals, 1/72 scale

The latest batch of 1/72 scale decal releases from AIMS includes "Junkers  Ju 88 G-6 Collection Part 2".

Surprisingly, decal releases for these late Ju 88s have been fairly scarse to date. Now, AIMS has put together a fascinating collection of six Junkers Ju 88 G-6s. Although most Ju 88 G-6s seem to be painted in a fairly uniform finish of overall RLM 76 Light Blue with RLM 75 Grey Violet mottling, AIMS has compiled an interesting selection of aircraft with different camouflage and radar arrays.

The specific subjects are:

• C9+AA fitted with experimental SN-2 radar above and below the fuselage. Black codes are supplied but the instructions acknowledge that they may be RLM 24 Blue.

• 3C+DA with FuG 220 "Morgenstern" covered by a newly designed nose cone. This aircraft is finished in a heavy mottled camouflage, probably RLM 82 Bright Green, RLM 83 Dark Green and / or RLM 81 Brown Violet.

• 4R+RB with FuG 218 "Neptun" radar

• B4+SA with FuG 218 "Neptun" radar and a loose wavy application of RLM 82 or RLM 83 over the standard finish.

• 3C+MN with the covered FuG 240 "Berlin" nose cone. The aircraft features red spinner tips and a replacement rudder with a darker mottle (probably RLM 81/83 or 81/82).

• C9+HB, also with FuG 240 "Berlin" nose cone. This aircraft possibly has an overspray of one or more of the late-war greens and brown-violet.

AIMS has also recently released 1/72 scale Morgenstern and Berlin radar cones to cater for modellers who do not wish to scratch build their own.

Instructions are supplied in full colour on a single piece of folded A4 paper. The diagrams are attractive and the colour notes are helpful. Where they are available the notes include references so that modellers can decide whether they agree with AIMS' interpretation of colours.

The decals are perfectly printed in glorious black, and include a number of very useful filler and access hatch decals.

AIMS' new 1/72 scale Junkers Ju 88 G-6 decals will be warmly welcomed by all 1/72 scale Luftwaffe night fighter modellers.
