Here is Part Two of Afterburner Decals treatment of F-15 Eagles flown by the Wing Commanders. This time it’s the 325th and 366th Fighter Wings that get the treatment.
This sheet provides markings for just two machines each of which is finished in a disruptive pattern of FS 36176 Dark Mod Eagle Grey over FS 36251 Light Mod Eagle Grey. Details of the two machines are as follows:
- F-15C 81-0027 of the 325th Fighter Wing based at Tyndall Air Force Base which is located near Panama City in Bay County, Florida in the United States from circa 2004. A bright bird indeed with full colour squadron shields that make up the Wing on both sides of the intakes, black and yellow chequered bands and Air Combat Command shields on the top of the vertical stabilisers, and Bay County Eagle nose art designs. If this is not enough, the white “shadowed” unit designators and wing titles applied to her vertical stabilisers set her apart even more from her squadron sisters.
- F-15C 85-0128 of the 366th Fighter Wing based at Mountain Home Air Force Base which is located west of the city of Mountain Home, Elmore County, Idaho in the United States circa 2006. Not as colourful as the previous option but nevertheless, it still bears colour to distinguish her as a Wing Commander’s mount in the form of the shields of the individual squadrons that make up 366th Fighter Wing on port side intake with a 366th Fighter Wing shield on the starboard one as well as Air Command Shields and white bands with the words GUNFIGHTERS on her vertical stabilisers. She also exhibits white “shadowing” to her unit designators and wing titles.
You get but a single normal sized decal sheet in the pack and it looks to have been printed by Cartograf. Everything is in perfect register which is really something considering the intricate swing, command and quadron shields. As with the previous Wing King sheet you are provided with separate segments of the Wing markings so as you can apply them over the top of the antenna fairings on top of the vertical stabilisers to counter any problems you may experience getting the main decal to settle down over the fairing. Two sets of reasonably comprehensive stencil data are also provided as are a pair of intake cover designs for both wings should you opt to purchase the Steel Beach intake cover set to apply them to.
The supporting information/placement guide sheets for this one are as equally well done as the other F-15 Wing Kings sheet and it comprise two A-4 sized pages printed on glossy paper and show colour side profiles of each option as well as single generic upper and lower plan views. Stencil data placement is guided via a full A-4 sized sheet that show larger reproductions of the data so as you can identify it. A further weapons and stores configuration diagram is also provided. Further reference on both machines is provided on the Afterburner Decals web site with comprehensive photos too.
The decals have been sized to fit the Hasegawa kit.
The decal sheet and the information sheets/placement guides come packed in a clear plastic zip loc bag.
Very nice indeed!
Recommended.
